Save the Date - LARDSale
by kkim on Sep 06 12:29pm
Hi LARDies,
Please mark your calendars and save your old clothes and housewares, because we're having a yard sale! The date: Oct 2nd, the Saturday after San Francisco. These sales are very important to the team because they help raise the money that we use to pay for boats, registration fees, insurance, food, and all the other expenses we have throughout the year.
The location is going to be Susan's house in the south bay, which she is so graciously offering again after our successful sale there in the springtime. It's a chance to see your friends without any land training involved! And just to stir up even more excitement, there will be some prizes for people who volunteer to help put it on (ie making and posting signs, setting up/taking down, etc). An evite will follow shortly, but in the meantime... mark your calendars... check your garages... save your stuff....
Please email me if you have any questions, you're interested in volunteering or you know you have stuff to contribute. And remember, your donations are tax deductible.
thanks,
Meghan

2nd Annual Paddle Art Contest Winner!
by kkim on Aug 02 11:29am
This annual award was started 2009 in commemoration of Arthur Yeh, one of the original LARD members who tragically passed away late 2007 in a car accident. His two loves, art and dragonboating, come together in this annual contest.
This year's winner Kristina was presented with a carbon fiber paddle at the 2010 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival in Long Beach, CA, on Saturday, July 31st, 2010.

The beautiful artwork submitted by Kristina.

Thank you all for your submissions.
Meghan talks about Dragonboat Racing

My name is Meghan and one of my favorite fitness activities is dragonboating. A dragonboat is basically a 40 foot long canoe that holds up to 20 paddlers (in 10 rows), a steersperson, and a caller/drummer. It's a big, heavy boat and paddling is a great workout for your entire body but especially your back, core and arms.

2nd Annual Paddle Art Contest
by kkim on May 10 10:30pm
Attention all paddlers who are at least 15 years old and under 24 years old
The Los Angeles Racing Dragons (LARD) invites the local community to enter the second annual paddle art contest with a chance to win a carbon fiber paddle.
The purpose of the contest is to promote the sport of dragon boat. All individuals at least 15-years-old and under 24-years-old are eligible to enter.
The winner will be presented with a carbon fiber paddle at the 2010 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival in Long Beach, CA, on Saturday, July 31st, 2010. The winning artwork will also be featured on a wooden paddle and the LARD website.
This contest is inspired by one of LARD's very own members, Arthur Yeh, who passed away in 2007. Arthur was passionate about both art and the sport of dragon boat. (For those who have seen it and don't know, the green hamster dragon was one of Arthur's creations.) In his memory, LARD established the Paddle Art contest in 2009 to promote the sport he loved and to nurture artistic creativity in the local community.
See the attached for more information, including the application forms.
Best of luck! Please don't hesitate to spread the word to other paddlers out there!

This was my first time organizing a Lardsale and it went GREAT!!
A huge thanks to EVERYBODY that came out to help, even if for a couple of hours. We were pretty busy throughout the day and having an "army" there really helped with all the customers!
A special thanks to:
- Susan for letting us take over her front yard for most of the day
- Lori, Susan, Jessee, K1, Jeannie and C Dub for being troopers and helping out ALL DAY
- Kenny for bringing a table and a clothes rack (especially since the wind/ heavy clothes killed the other one...)
- Vi for being "refreshing drinks" and goodies
- Leon for bringing goodies to share
- Ken and Tammy for bring refreshing drinks at the end of the day
- K1 who was our banker
- Jesse (again) & Greg for walking all over the neighborhood and putting up the signs
- Delwin for being "Phil" for the day
Thank you everybody again!!

by swu on Mar 07 07:03pm
Saturday we headed out to the Rosemead training facility to do erg testing and did a tiny bit of paddling in the pool - until it started pouring rain.

Sunday we were back on the water. Yet another beautiful day in Long Beach

Only a few more practices before Tempe!
